Stop Your Pain with Laser Therapy

Laser Therapy Treatments

Energy medicine technologies are the wave of the future as they can safely and effectively stimulate healing and achieve pain control. Quantum physics has demonstrated that our atoms, cells and bodies are fields of energy and that our body communicates through energy. Many of the receptors in our cells can be activated via energy waves without the need of chemical or physical interaction.

The Most Thoroughly Studied & Proven Modalities Are:

  • Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT aka Cold Laser)
  • Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)
  • Microcurrent

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT aka Cold Laser)

Low level laser therapy (aka Photobiomodulation) uses light energy (photons) at specific wavelengths to stimulate tissue healing, nerve regeneration, lymphatic drainage, reduction of inflammation and reduction of pain. LLLT uses class 3B lasers at power outputs of 500mW or less, which do not heat up or damage your tissue (thus called Cold Laser).

Instead, it causes a cascade of molecular events that lead to cellular and tissue changes. This phenomenon is known as photo biomodulation. About 90% of the research on laser therapy for pain and tissue regeneration has been done on class 3B lasers. On the other hand, high power class 4 lasers can burn or cut tissues and therefore can be used as surgical lasers.

Living organisms receptors for light energy known as chromophores. Chlorophyll in green plants is a perfect example as it absorbs light and converts it into energy for the plant. Our cells also have chromophores (light receptors), such as Cytochrome C Oxidase that. It is found in the mitochondria (the cellular powerhouse) and when it is activated it increases cellular energy and oxygen utilization.

Studies have shown that this reaction stimulates production of growth factors for nerves, blood vessels, tendons, skin and bones. Light comes in different colors or wavelengths, research shows that wavelengths at ~ 600nm (red) and 800-900nm (infrared) penetrate the tissue best and provide the best cellular response. At Integrative Rehab Medicine, we utilize a class 3B laser with wavelengths of 600nm and 810nm.

Scientifically Proven Effects of Low Level Laser Therapy

When applied at the right dose/wavelength, LLLT is extremely therapeutic.

  • Increases wound healing and wound tensile strength by accelerating collagen production, collagen cross-linkage, wound contraction
  • Accelerates bone healing by increasing collagen production, calcium deposition and by stimulating bone forming cells (osteoblasts)
  • Increase oxygen availability to the tissue
  • Stimulate growth of blood vessels that deliver nutrients to the healing tissue
